Phoenix Girls Chorus is a non-profit organization, serving girls and young women through Phoenix, Arizona and the surrounding areas. Please take a moment to watch a short presentation about our history, mission statement, and hear from some of our singers.
Mission of the Chorus:
To cultivate, inspire, and empower young women to find their voice
through world-class music education and performance.
Our graduates are young women who love the arts, value education,
and possess global awareness to transform their world.
To empower young women through leadership, community service and music.
Founded in 1981 by Daniel Hooper, the Phoenix Girls Chorus has delighted and entertained audiences throughout Arizona and around the world. This established choral organization draws talented singers from communities valley wide. Under the recent direction of Ms. Danya Tiller, Artistic Director, our top level performing ensemble, Cantabile, won first place in their choir division and was also awarded a gold diploma for their excellence in performance at the Franz Schubert International Choral Competition. Comprised of young women between the ages of seven and eighteen, we are a private, not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization (#86-0621710) that supports and operates music education choir programs.
Ms. Tiller, along with Mrs. Kandis Tutty, Associate Director, educate the girls on vocal development, performance skills, sight singing, music theory, foreign language diction, and choreography. Musical repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of music including classical, sacred, folk, contemporary choral literature, Broadway pieces and foreign language selections. Singers perform in at least two to four major concerts each year as well as public and community appearances including city events, retirement homes, and hospitals. The Chorus has performed for the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phoenix Symphony, the AZ House of Representatives, Governor Janet Napolitano, and made numerous radio and television appearances. Upper level choirs have taken part in prestigious choral festivals throughout the United States and including Canada, Germany, France, England, Wales, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Our mid-level choir begins their tour experience by traveling and performing regionally in Arizona and California, including San Diego and Disneyland. Each year many high school level singers successfully audition for and perform in the Arizona Music Educators Regional and All-State Competitions. Singers dedicate up to twelve seasons in the chorus programs and alumni often return to sing with the Chorus.
The focus of the Phoenix Girls Chorus is to provide a nurturing environment where singers develop their music skills to the best of their ability, form lasting friendships, develop strength and independence, and create lifetime memories. Our young girls mature into outstanding young women, usually at the top of their class. Their education here broadens to a larger scope by learning poise, confidence, team work, and public speaking, creating future leaders for our community.
